Dear Orchestra,
Thank you to those of you who came to our lunch meeting
yesterday – particularly those of you
planning to join our ministry for the first time! I echo Caleb’s sentiments
that the music and worship leadership is eagerly anticipating what God will do
in and through the musicians of Calvary this ministry season.
To recap some
particulars for the orchestra: The month-to-month time commitment will be the
same as it was last year: one Sunday of ministry per month (all services),
preceded by two rehearsals: Sunday afternoon for the orchestra only and
Wednesday evening in collaboration with the band and/or choir as needed. Some
of the call times have shifted slightly from last season due to the change in
the service schedule. There will, of course, be an extra rehearsal or two for
Christmas and Easter preparation.
I invite all of you to look carefully at the orchestra’s
schedule on our website. The dates through June should see little change, but
at the present I am focusing on September through December. Please compare the
dates of rehearsals and our appearances in services with your/your family’s
calendar and advise me of your availability through Christmas when you can. My
most pressing need for information regards September 22 and our Christmas
program on December 14. As much information as you can provide is appreciated,
though of course TBDs are helpful also.
Also, something new this year: I am planning a “pre-season”
rehearsal on Saturday, September 7, at
10:30 AM. We will meet for an hour or so and look at some of our “core”
repertoire, and begin working on some of our most challenging Christmas pieces.
I hope all of you can come that morning. Please
email me with your availability for that Saturday morning rehearsal.
Finally, you all by now should have received a welcome email
from Planning Center Online, the
service planning software we use at Calvary. Please make sure you log in,
update your contact information, and upload a headshot when you can (this last
item particularly helps Caleb, who has oversight of all the worship and music
volunteers as well as direct responsibility for the worship teams). Once you
give me your availability for given dates in the fall, I will start to add you
to the service plans and use that forum for further communication.
Please enjoy the remaining weeks of summer, and join
me in praying for God’s guidance and provision for this ministry and
our church in the coming year!
--Eric
